Tree Code Amendment Process Delayed But Happening: Your Input Will Be Needed!

Everyone is terribly distracted by the current Covid-19 challenge, but below are some positive steps you can take for trees from your home. We need to preserve our large trees, now more than ever. Please stay engaged. Our trees and all of us who benefit from them thank you.

--April 7 til May 15, 2020. Keep a lookout for an online survey the city will make available during this time in order to engage “a broad range of interested persons and stakeholders.” We’ll get the link to you. The city must hear from us to keep the momentum going.

--Mid-June. We will share with you a city staff draft report reflecting the research and recommendations city bureaus are preparing for the proposed amendments.

--June 29-July 10. You can provide feedback on that first draft of staff recommendations on tree code updates via an online open house and workshop.

--August 11 and August 20. Participate in public briefings scheduled with the Planning and Sustainability Commission and the Urban Forestry Commission, respectively. We’ll provide more info as the time gets closer.

-Late August or early September. Those two commissions will hold joint hearings that will provide opportunities for public testimony.

--Mid- to late-October, 2020. Portland City Council will hold a final public hearing, date to be determined.
